Dr. Keith A. Kaufman

Dr. KaufmanDr. Keith A. Kaufman received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America, where his dissertation research involved investigating the effects of a new mindfulness-based treatment for athletes on the performance of archers and golfers. He attended undergraduate school at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he double-majored in Psychology and Exercise & Sport Science, and received the Patrick F. Earey Award to the outstanding senior Exercise & Sport Science major. He has experience working in various clinical settings in the Washington, DC area, including university counseling centers, community mental health centers, outpatient clinics, and private practice. He has previously served as a sport psychology consultant at Catholic University and at Virginia Tech, where he completed his pre-doctoral internship.

Dr. Kaufman has given numerous presentations in the community and at international psychological conferences. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). In addition to his clinical practice at Parkhurst Associates Mental Health Services, he teaches at Catholic University and American University, and is a Research Associate in the Psychology Department at Catholic University. Dr. Kaufman works with both athletes and non-athletes of all ages, and his treatment specializations include performance enhancement, anxiety, depression, stress management, coping with trauma and injury, conflict resolution, emotion regulation, and sleep disorders, among others. He uses an integrative approach to treatment, drawing from a variety of methodologies and techniques to best meet the unique needs of each individual, group, or team.
