Carl V. Coleman, LGPC

Washington, D.C.

As a behaviorist, using person-centered and ecological approaches, your sessions with me will likely be fun, intuitive, interactive, maybe intense, yet meaningful with concrete “take-aways”. I work with concerns about self-esteem, depression, anxiety, anger, spirituality, sexuality, academic success, grief, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, home, work and school relationships and more. Some of my most common responses from my clients are, “I’ve never been able to share that with anyone before”, “You’ve helped me to…..”, “that’s a great example. You understand me”, and “If it wasn’t for my work with you, I….”

I work well with clients who are highly invested in the process; wanting and willing to do the work. My focus is helping adults and young adults; including individuals, couples and groups. I particularly want my services to be readily available to men, military personnel (including veterans), and students. I completed my counseling internship at Whitman Walker Clinic and served as an academic advisor for George Washington University for over 10 years.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Hampton University, Special Education Master of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling from George Washington University. I work under the supervision of John C. Parkhurst, PhD, and hold a full clinical professional counselor license and private practice in Germantown, Maryland.

I am a member of the American Counseling Association, National Board of Certified Counselors and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors of Maryland.
